ISP-RIAA Deal Could Threaten Free WiFi Hotspots
Looks like the new arrangement some ISP have agreed to, which will have them monitor usage and take action on copyright infringement will have far reaching consequences than just infringement of privacy. For starters, businesses are going to suffer for it, and waste a lot of resources defending suspected violations. And oh, if this comes into effect, who in their right minds will offer free internet hotpots for the masses of potential file sharers without bandwidth throttling software, which by its very design defeats the spirit or the point of a free hotspot. As for the privacy issue, whichever way you look at it, this is akin to having a public closed circuit television installed in your home to monitor any illegal activities that you may or may not be engaged in.
